About the Scheme
The Heritage in Schools Scheme provides a panel of Heritage Specialists who visit primary schools (in-person or virtually) to help children and their teachers learn about and appreciate their local heritage. The Scheme supports the stated aims and objectives of the Social, Scientific and Environmental Education (SESE) curriculum and provides an additional educational tool and resource for teachers.
I really enjoy the opportunities that being one of the heritage specialists on this scheme.
For a number of years, now I have been able to offer schools’ workshops both in-person as well as hybrid programmes including virtual visits on a variety of topics especially old Irish stories.
There are plenty of interactive activities including creative writing and drama plus some great, but not so well-known mythological Irish tales set in their, early medieval, historical context. I recommend the Tree-Story programme as well for something a bit different.
I also have programmes for infant and younger junior classes on a number of environmental topics
Exploring bio-divesity with Chubbi the friendly dragon. Just how many animals live close to us without us even seeing them? Join Chubbi to become animal detectives and go looking for clues.
Or find out how important our trees are with Mr Bear who has his own house-in-a-tree.
But I am not the only one!
There are a wide number of Heritage specialist with a huge number of exciting skills to share all around the country ready to visit your school. Go and explore the scheme for yourselves.
